For the month of October, we are giving shout-outs to our amazing Metastatic Breast Cancer community. Meet Tammy – a Hope Scarf recipient, storyteller and MBC thriver living in North Carolina. After her initial diagnosis in 2008, she became metastatic in 2012 at age 46. Tammy lives each day with creativity and joy.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that has nothing to do with cancer.
I am a wife of 33 years. I love to take pictures, to color and go swimming.
What brought you hope as you faced cancer?
My friends have brought me hope throughout my treatments. Also, being able to stay positive even though I am now Stage IV.
How do you live life over cancer?
I live one day at a time, and each day to the fullest.
How did you become connected with Hope Scarves?
I am resources coordinator for breast cancer group. When I began to add posts, I noticed an older post about Hope Scarves. So I ordered one myself! I love my scarf.
What do you wish other people knew about Hope Scarves?
You should know that Hope Scarves can send you a scarf for treatment, and with it you will receive stories from others who have faced cancer.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about sending a Hope Scarf to someone facing cancer?
I would say this is a great idea to help pick them up.
What is one of your dreams or goals for the future?
To help others go through cancer with a positive attitude.
What is your favorite inspirational quote?
Live – Laugh – Love.
If your friends or family describe you in a couple of words, what would they say?
Inspirational.

I learned that we need to be our own voice when talking about cancer. Stand up & fight.
