Join us in getting to know Angie as she shares her beautiful way of living life over cancer.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that has nothing to do with cancer.
I love to collect jewelry of all kinds! I enjoy going to antique stores and finding little treasures that make me smile…or finding trinkets in thrift stores as well…doesn’t matter to me!
What brought you hope as you faced cancer?
My faith has brought me through so much over the years. Cancer was yet another hurdle, but I felt the love of God every single step. He brought many wonderful people into my life that I would not have met otherwise. All of this brought me incredible hope.
How do you live life over cancer?
I continued to work while going through my surgeries and treatments, so life doesn’t look that much different. But, I have had to take things slower as recovery takes a bit of time. Some days I am definitely hit with fear. But I actually find solace in knowing that I have absolutely no control over a recurrence. That may sound odd, but I have been trying to accept that truth, and turn it into a positive, rather than a negative. I am taking yoga classes, and that helps to calm my mind and spirit. PLUS, it has helped with recovery. When faced with my own mortality, it forced me to be more mindful of family and friends…and to take every opportunity to be present and involved in their lives.
How did you become connected with Hope Scarves?
I found your website when I was looking for scarves after chemo started. Scarves tend to be expensive, and when I saw that you would send me one free, I was so happy! Your program also impressed me. I have since sent mine back to you so that another woman can be blessed.
What do you wish other people knew about Hope Scarves?
I wish people knew how supportive Hope Scarves is, and that they can at least take one worry off of their plate by contacting you and getting a very nice scarf to wear while in treatment.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about sending a Hope Scarf to someone facing cancer?
Please don’t hesitate to do it. You have no idea how much it will mean to them. A cancer patient has so much going on..all the appointments, the paperwork, the side effects, the bills, etc. To receive a beautiful wrapped scarf with an encouraging note can work wonders.
What is one of your dreams or goals for the future?
I want to able to be healthy enough to participate in the lives of my grown children as they build their own families.
What is your favorite inspirational quote?
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” – Mark 11:24
If your friends or family describe you in a couple of words, what would they say?
Calm, encouraging, loves to laugh.
Please share something you learned facing cancer.
I’ve learned that if you take one day at a time, and not try to look too far into the future, you truly can deal with things so much better. It’s hard not to “forecast” when you are in that position, but it’s so important to listen to your body and to those caring for you just for THAT DAY. I have learned that God will bless me richly even on the darkest days. I saw him show up on every single one.
